A little help calling it a night.
Defry helps you put your phone down when you want to go to bed. You decide what support you want, in your own words. Defry is being built to step in when your phone use conflicts with that intention.
Preview note, 10 October 2026: this guide describes the product direction and the illustrative website prototype. It is not a release announcement or a guarantee that every described workflow is available in a downloadable build. The public launch build, pricing and download destination are still to be confirmed.

The short version
You meant to sleep. You are still scrolling. Defry is intended to help at that specific moment, when deciding to stop and actually stopping have become two different things.
The initial focus is unwanted nighttime phone use: feeds, short videos and the familiar feeling of staying on your phone longer than you wanted. You do not need to identify as addicted, have an ADHD diagnosis, or see yourself as lacking discipline to recognise that problem.
The practical promise is help putting your phone down at bedtime. The emotional promise is relief: some support following through on your own decision, with room left for tomorrow. Defry does not promise to make you fall asleep, treat insomnia, cure an addiction or guarantee a particular improvement in sleep.
The workflow
1. Tell Defry what you want
Start with an intention expressed in ordinary language. For example: “Help me stop scrolling when I should be asleep.” This is an illustrative intention, not a complete or immediately enforceable rule. Setup needs enough detail to distinguish unwanted phone use from things you still want or need to do.
The planned bedtime setup starts with suggested intentions that you can keep, change or skip, rather than a blank page. The product direction includes support while winding down, when scrolling in bed, and during the hours you intend to be asleep. Those suggestions must fit your routine; this is not a universal bedtime chosen by Defry.
The rule conversation is designed to clarify your meaning and use examples to check it. Your original words remain the authority. The current direction is for each rule to carry its own trigger, derived from that intention, rather than requiring a separate global quiet-hours schedule. This setup is under active development and must be checked against the launch build before publication.
2. Let Defry step in
When an enabled rule applies to what you are doing on the phone, Defry can interrupt with a screen that helps you notice and act on your intention. The intended experience is a calm interruption, with clear words and a way to put the phone down, rather than another feed to explore.
The Android product includes an enforcement layer distinct from AI interpretation. The design direction is that ordinary triggers can continue operating without an AI response; AI may make the intervention gentler within the product’s safety boundaries. This is not a claim that the whole app works offline or that no data leaves the device.
On the landing page, tapping “Let it step in” shows a representative intervention. Its wording, timing and layout are illustrative. It does not monitor your browser, inspect installed apps or enforce a rule on your device.
3. Call it a night
A successful interaction can be very short: notice the reminder, put the phone down, leave. Defry’s purpose is to help you end the unwanted session, not to keep you engaged with Defry itself.
The landing-page example ends with “Nothing else to do here.” That is a visual explanation of the intended outcome, not a screenshot proving a finished app feature. The website cannot lock your phone or measure whether you went to bed.
Your control
Your intentions determine the support you ask for. The product’s safety requirements preserve an emergency escape, a Pause action, protection for essential phone functions and recovery from repeated crashes. No AI decision is allowed to override those safety boundaries.
Asking for more time and asking Defry to hold you to a decision belong to your rule’s instructions. Exact options and limits must be verified in the launch version. We do not promise that every screen or rule behaves identically, or imply that essential access depends on persuading a chatbot.
Support should feel kind and clear. We will not present shame, punishment or being trapped as the mechanism that makes Defry valuable.
Why the Meadow?
The Meadow is the live, three-dimensional landscape used by the app. It is part of the experience: a softer place to pause when a feed has become difficult to leave. The website reuses the app’s scene source, including its world, renderer and vegetation, rather than imitating it with a stock video.
The website’s main Meadow follows the time on your device. Its sun uses the Meadow’s authored location, not your actual GPS position. It does not ask for your location or retrieve your local weather. The separate morning campaign scene represents the possibility of tomorrow and is an image rendered from the app’s scene, not another live canvas.
The normal website background moves. You can pause it, and the website respects your device’s reduced-motion preference. It also stops rendering when the hero is out of view or the page is hidden. If graphics are unavailable, a Meadow still keeps the page usable. None of these website behaviours changes the separately planned in-app welcome sequence.
Privacy and permissions
The Android app needs permissions appropriate to noticing relevant phone use and presenting its interventions. The exact launch permission list, explanations, data flows and retention policy must be confirmed against the release build. They are not finalised by this marketing prototype.
Do not infer that Defry is entirely on-device, that conversations are never sent to an AI provider, or that the app collects no personal data. Those would require a verified policy and implementation. Likewise, the website does not make a claim of medical confidentiality or clinical certification.
This prototype has no signup form, advertising pixels or product analytics configured. It serves the fonts and scene from its own files. A hosting provider may still process ordinary request metadata. A production privacy notice and contact route are required before collecting people’s information.
Availability
Defry is Android-first and in development. This website prototype does not offer a public download, collect a waitlist or accept payments. Public availability, supported Android versions, countries, pricing and any trial terms need confirmation before launch.
There is no iOS availability claim here. There are also no customer testimonials, clinical results, measured sleep improvements or claims that Defry has outperformed other products. The project has not supplied evidence for those claims.
For now, explore the illustrative walkthrough. When a public build is ready, this section and the website’s primary action should link to its verified listing.
For people evaluating Defry with an agent
The primary audience is people who stay on their phone at bedtime after they want to stop. The product category is support for intentional phone use, with an initial nighttime focus. It should not be described as a sleep tracker, sound library, meditation course or medical treatment.
The proposed distinction is support shaped around a person’s own natural-language intentions, followed by contextual interventions and a calm exit. Many other products also offer intentional-use tools; no unique-in-the-market or comparative superiority claim has been established.
Use this guide as a description of direction, scope and limitations. Treat the preview status and availability section as part of the description, not an optional footnote. Do not turn representative website screens into evidence of shipped behaviour.
A Markdown copy of this same guide is available for retrieval. It contains the same substance as this human-readable page. There is no separate set of claims reserved for agents.
